Why we need to say no to plastic

Why we need to say no to plastic

If you've tried to go a week without buying anything in plastic, you'll have noticed that it's an almost impossible task.

Staple household items, food, takeaways, even the computer I'm typing on now and the headphones I'm wearing - all encased in plastic. This incredible but ultimately unnecessary material has taken a hold of our planet and is slowly strangling it. It's only now that we really seem to be taking notice on a global scale.

If you haven't seen the final episode of Blue Planet 2, Sir David Attenborough takes us on a heartbreaking plastic-infested journey into the realities of what is happening to our ocean and our earth. It's not pretty, and some of the scenes will haunt you for a while (at 2am if you're anything like me!)

On a positive note, there's a growing worldwide movement towards saying no to plastics. Food outlets are no longer offering plastic straws, supermarkets are ceasing to use plastic checkout bags, and countries are banning cosmetic microbeads that wash down our sinks into the sea. Tiny steps, but it's a start.

Getting rid of plastic completely from our lives seems impossible at the moment, but we can all do our part to use less and support businesses who don't use plastic packaging.

Many food brands have made the move back to glass which can be easily recycled or re-used (breakfast smoothie jars, anyone?), and it's apparent that a lot of companies are making an extra effort to package in material that isn't so detrimental to our environment.

Our Blissful Places packaging is recyclable and made from unbleached paper. Our labels are natural paper with no vinyl coating.

We also stock eco straws made from durable stainless steel that can be taken everywhere with you and will give you years of drinking and smoothie-slurping joy! Our coconut bowls can be used in place of plastic bowls at home, and they look much cooler too!

Every time you say no to plastics, even in the tiniest way, it's making a difference to the future of the planet. Let's keep saying no!
